Class of 2020
2020: A Year of Growth and Gratitude
It has been a busy year for Gillian’s Greyhound Adoption (GGA), and we’re overjoyed to have welcomed so many retired racers and loving homes into the GGA family. Despite the challenges brought on by COVID-19, we were fortunate to continue importing retired athletes and matching them with their forever families. In 2020, GGA proudly placed 18 retired racing greyhounds into homes. It’s been a pleasure getting to know all of you, and your updates bring joy to us and to your greyhound's racing and kennel families. Seeing how these incredible dogs settle into their next chapter of life never fails to make us smile.
This year, GGA was thrilled to form new friendships and collaborations with the Northwest Canadian Greyhound League and Greyhound Pet Adoptions of Delaware. Together, we’ve expanded our reach and assisted even more hounds into their forever homes. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such passionate advocates for retired greyhounds.
As we head into 2021, we already have a growing list of retirees waiting to join the GGA family. We are excited to continue building connections and matching these incredible athletes with their perfect homes. Thank you for being part of the journey and making this year so rewarding. Here’s to another year of growth, love, and wagging tails!
The GGA Family
Ruby (Ctw Chanel Five)
The Lord Family
Gotcha Day - February 3, 2020
Ruby was called to the Rainbow Bridge on August 2, 2023 after exhaustive efforts of treating a neck injury of years gone by ceased to bring her quality of life back.
Albert (Alberta)
The Johnson Family
Gotcha Day - February 28, 2020
Albert is a good good boy! Our household loves Albert for his calm presence, amazing singing voice and excitement at the word "go"! The Johnson household walks. A lot! This year to date, we've covered over 480km walking and hiking in local parks, mountain trails and other adventures! We've walked and hiked in Banff, Glacier, Yoho and Revelstoke National Parks plus a ton in Kananaskis Country. We had a fun time on a vacation to Revelstoke, BC. He's the perfect gentleman in hotels, visiting my 85 yr old Mom in her retirement community and meeting new people! Albert's favorite person to walk with is my Mom. They love spending time together and he is ever so gentle with her too. Miss Brette (his partner in 4legged adventures) and I, love our Bertie to bits! <3
Glide (Craigiewideglide)
The Town Family
Gotcha Day - February 28, 2020
After losing our beloved Sunny (Sunny Valentine, GGA Class of 2018) on May 23, 2024, Glide became an only dog. It took him awhile to adjust as Sunny was definitely the leader in our household. He followed her whenever she decided there was something going on or to be barked at, he was there by her side. Our lives are very quiet now as Glide’s true personality has come out as being a very sweet, gentle, quiet boy who would lounge away the day on the couch if we let him. He loves special cuddle time once in a while when we let him up on the big people bed. He loves going to the park in the car with his dad or with me down the Lightfoot trail. We miss Sunny every day but having Glide around makes our life so much better, especially now that I am retired and Dave is semi-retired.
Tripp (Sj Road Trippin)
The Hanley Family
Gotcha Day - May 23, 2020
Tripp has been a hiking and camping hound from Virginia to Massachusetts. Retirement isn’t the relaxing pace that he was probably hoping for!
Ghost (Cbj Ghost Rider)
The Evans Family
Gotcha Day - June 6, 2020
Ghost has had a wonderful year! She loves her naps and treats and has been bonding even more with her human brother, especially when he shares treats with her. Ghost comes alive in the evenings - she’s more vocal in the backyard after dark and enjoys nighttime walks when the roads are quiet. She’s our sweet, sensitive and quirky girl.
Skippy (Amf Strange Bird)
The Artley & Gouin Family
Gotcha Day - July 5, 2020
Skippy continues to love life. She became the leader of our little pack last fall, after we lost our 3rd grey girl to cancer. She takes her new role seriously, but not too seriously. She's always ready for food, fun, adventures to be had, cuddles to enjoy. She loves to swim in the lake, hike in the park, car rides and road trips, and visits with residents at the nursing home. Skippy was well known in her racing kennel for her "stoned" expression, and I've included a picture from this summer with her sis to show she still rocks that stoned face on a regular basis. We love Skippy very much, and are thankful to have her in our hearts and home.
Eli (Ctw Elias)
The Bernard Family
Gotcha Day - September 6, 2020
Bill (CT's Bill)
The Mancini Family
Gotcha Day - September 12, 2020
What can we say about our Big Buddy Bill?! He lives up to the word "Buddy" every single day. He is always by our side, never wants us out of his eye shot and is a constant source of love and sweetness.... unless one of the other hounds happen to accidentally touch one of his back feet (specifically back feet) when he's napping. Then he wakes up a bit cranky. He is still a guardian in that he alerts us to any and all perceived threats (birds, air planes, kids, bicycles etc etc etc). He is not a fan of sunbathing like his housemates and prefers to be in the climate controlled house, in the couch with his dad or lying prone looking out the window for the aforementioned perceived threats. We love this big goober and has brought smiles and laughter to our faces since we reunited with him and brought him home.
Count (Windy Count)
The Solomon Family
Gotcha Day - October 10, 2020
Well Count has had another amazing year. He continues to love hanging out with his cousin, Roscoe, who has come for visits throughout the year. This year Count went to the Great Global Greyhound Walk where he saw many, many sighthounds including old GGA buddies and of course, his bestie, Roscoe. At home Count shows no signs of slowing down, but then again, how does one slow down from moving from one nap location to another? All the best in the upcoming year to everyone in greyhound land!
Courage (Amf Odd Sister)
The Rutherford Family
Gotcha Day - October 11, 2020
Courage and Mags (Rs's Magnum, GGA Class of 2020) are doing wonderful. We can’t believe it’s been 4 years since they joined our family! They keep us exercising daily with walks around the neighbourhood & love weekly car outings to explore new destinations. The beach is still their favourite! Although Courage is still a bit hesitant in new situations, she has truly become a very social grey greeting familiar faces, both human & canine on our walks & in our home. Running into GGA alumni Twister tops her list! She loves her daily zoomies in the yard & is always excited to play. Mags has kept his cuddly, fun loving demeanour & also has several friends he has made on daily outings. Always seeming to know when someone needs a greyhound lean to brighten their day. He isn’t into the zoomies as much but occasionally obliges Courage with some play time. It isn’t unusual to find them twinning out close together on a couch for some down time. They truly have become best friends.
Gear (Js Geartotherear)
The Wilson & Lamb Family
Gotcha Day - October 20, 2020
Grad (Amf Speed Ticket)
The Hall Family
Gotcha Day - October 24, 2020
Grad and Tucker (Tucker, GGA Class of 2023) have had a great first year together! They each have very different personalities. Grad is generally very sweet, and more reserved, while Tucker has a very classic “little brother” disposition; he’s quite playful, energetic, and also a great snuggler. We can tell Tucker looks up to Grad since he often sticks by his side and follows him to wherever the action is in the house or yard. Grad enjoys Tucker’s company too and will meet his playful energy with a good chase. They love sleeping on the deck together and watching the squirrels and neighbours. They both occasionally sneak into a bedroom and steal stuffed animals when the mood strikes. A brown McDonald’s bag is a big thrill for them in hopes there’s a plain hamburger in there to share. Tucker completed his apprenticeship and is now Assistant to the Assistant BBQ Overseer (Grad). They’ve been wonderful with the new people and friends they met this year and continue to be sweet and good natured boys!
Kip Cowboy (Plainsman)
The Moore Family
Gotcha Day - November 27, 2020
This was a big year for Phantom (GGA Class of 2023) and Kip Cowboy! Phantom graduated from her crate to running the house this spring!! Kip celebrated his 8th birthday. Phantom has gotten a lot bigger, almost as tall as Kip now! They enjoy our walks through the woods and Phantom always finds a stick to carry back down the hill no matter if it's loose or still stuck in the ground! She is living her best life---she is sooo happy!! Her and Kip are the perfect pair. They like to chase each other around in our fenced in yard here at home and at the beach. They love to visit all the campers at the beach....it's their happy place. They had their annual visit from Rocky the greyhound and his pawtents. They also had a sleepover at his house last fall. Kip is finally allowed to play with his toys again LOL since Phantom has quieted down a bit, she will allow it. They really have become the best of friends - we really couldn't think of a better Pairing. Phantom has learned how to open the bedroom door now because she loves to lay in the big bed...and closet doors....she brings us our shoes ....that girl gets into everything...she is so much fun! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for bringing Kipperoo Cowboy and Phantom Daisy into our lives. They make each day a new adventure!
