2022: Reflecting on 2022: Growth, Milestones, and Gratitude
As we look back on 2022, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude for how much the GGA family has grown. What began as a small effort has blossomed into something we couldn’t have imagined back in 2017.
Despite the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, we were thrilled to place so many retired racing greyhounds into their forever homes this year. A milestone we’re incredibly proud of: in 2022, GGA matched our 100th hound and home! Reaching this point is a dream come true, made possible by the dedication and love of our adopters, fosters, and supporters.
In 2022, we partnered with Bluegrass Greyhound Adoption, Greyhound Pets of America - Nashville, and Going Home Greyhound to help find retired racing greyhounds their balanced forever home.
The updates we receive from you—photos, stories, and messages—bring so much joy to us and your greyhound’s racing and kennel families. This connection is what makes GGA special.
2022 wasn’t without its challenges, though. We lost some cherished friends and family this year. Your support during those difficult times meant the world to us and helped us find strength in our shared love for these incredible hounds.
As we step into 2023, we’re excited to continue growing the GGA family. With a list of retirees already waiting to come “North of the 49th” and join our foster care program, we’re ready to match even more hounds with their perfect homes.

Gotcha Day - January 4, 2022
It has been a busy year with some significant changes for our sweet Lucy Goose, now lovingly called "Goose". She lost her sister Daisy in February after months of being the best and most nurturing sister to her. They have been two peas in a pod since Lucy came to us from CGA in 2022, at the ripe age of 5 and a half. Unbeknownst to us the time of her adoption, we learned Daisy and Lucy were cousins, having come from the same breeder, several years apart. We also moved to the seaside community of Brooklyn Nova Scotia, which has been wonderful for Goose. With several sandy beaches close by, she discovered that running along the shore as the waves roll past her feet, is one of her most favourite things to do year round. She donned her party hat and celebrated the big 8 this past summer, with coconut cream pie on the back deck, which we built a big fence around so she could run and play off leash. The best part about Goose's new home is meeting her new best friend who lives a couple doors down - Diamond the Greyhound! All in all, she's living her best life on the east coast and we can only imagine the adventures we'll share together in years to come.

Luka had another great year with the family. He continues to seek out new and wonderful ways to sleep in positions his humans do not understand, and has decided that car rides are *almost* better than sliced bread! He continues to bring joy to our lives, and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have him with us.

Gotcha Day - January 8, 2022
Carlos lost his big sister Shyan in May and has done quite well going solo. He has gotten more social and accepted some more attention from people that he sees more frequently. He loves van rides especially ones that go through Tim Hortons drive thru with timbit treats. He still continues to grow in his personality and bravery. Life is fairly quite and that seems to suit him just fine. We were going to head to Nova Scotia again for 2 weeks but unfortunately family health emergencies kept us home. We are hoping we'll get there this coming year. Carlos is a good traveler and Nova Scotia has the lifestyle he likes. We love him so much and he is such a great dog.

This year saw a big change in our household, the addition of Salty. Tack has adjusted quite well, although there are some side eye moments when Salty lets loose with some puppy like energy. Salty fit right into our routine from day one like a champ!
We took the two hounds for a dip in the river this summer, we were pretty sure Salty would love it (he did!!) and were very pleasantly surprised that Tack loved it as well - there are plans next summer to enjoy some of Lake Huron’s beaches as well!
The children are getting older and have now taken full responsibility for morning and afternoon walks with the dogs. As well as feeding them breakfast and dinner through the week.
With the two dogs our house feels complete. The jump from one greyhound to two was definitely the right decision for our family!

Simon continues to be a happy-go-lucky guy as he gets older! At the start of every walk his tail is wagging, and we spend more and more time meandering and sniffing every flower and every blade of grass. Simon's got some special pup-siblings: Seven, Lucy, Daisy. They're all high-energy tornadoes which is hilarious to see alongside Simon's very easygoing, unbothered energy. He's so patient and a good balancing force. He's also been having some supervised time with some friendly cats, Marley and Angel, and learning how to keep calm in their company. It's been so cool to see him get to meet them! Somehow, he loves the snow — it brings out his zoomies. So as you're enjoying the winter season, imagine Simon frolicking too. Happy Howlidays!

Over the past year, Tuffy has continued to enjoy his retirement and has been living life to the fullest. Tuffy fills our lives with so much love, silly entertainment and cuddles. He loves his walks, adventures, greyhound playdates, playing with his stuffed animals, and most of all cuddling with his humans on the couch. We are truly grateful to have Tuffy in our lives.

Mitch is doing great/ Earlier in the summer he lost his big sister Wallis, you can see her in one of the shots walking with Mitch and Ajax. Whenever we walk, Mitch always takes a little rest in the same spot. He takes his stuffies very seriously!

Gotcha Day - April 5, 2022
2024-2025 has been one of many treatos, friends, and fashion. Tarzan is delighted to share it has been another revolution around the sun with a daily dental treat (one of life’s true delicacies), many hangouts with his friends (shout out to besties Uncles Lad and Hound, Reba and Lavi), and multiple new outfits as we practiced to ultimately sew a full-body custom tuxedo for Tarzan to wear to our wedding this fall. Suffice to say Tarzan was the real star of the show that day—as he always is, every day.
Wishing all the greyhound families safe and joyous holidays, with many turkey treatos for the hounds if available (Tarzan’s personal favourite).

We had a quieter year with our pups. We sold our boat this spring as although Vesta and Shanee (Look To The Sky, GGA Class of 2022) tolerated it with patience. It was not their favourite place to hang out.They love the comfort of their 6 beds at home to relax and daily walks in our neighborhood parks.We spent a month in Florida in March and continue to be the best 4 legged travellers ever!Health continues to be good as littermates, they turned 8 in August celebrated with a huge steak and dog birthday cookies. They make us laugh every day with unique individual personalities. They are our greatest joy. We love you endlessly.

Velvet has had another great year! She's visited new places, made new friends, and tried so many new snacks. A highlight for this year was attending her first Global Greyhound Walk in Guelph! Noodle Jeff is truly living his best life. This year has been incredibly fun as we've enjoyed watching him every day. He has grown into a creature of refined tastes and habits—he enjoys having marrow bone on the deck in his hammock every Saturday, and treats like broccoli, cauliflower, or cucumber following his kibble. He even shares peanut butter toast with mum! Jeff smiles, play bows, and gives kisses when he’s in the mood. We had a big dental this year, during which he lost seven teeth, but the only thing that has changed is which side he chews his broccoli on. He likes to stay close and doesn’t enjoy being alone; he wants to meet everyone he sees. Car rides to the beach and a quick walk on the grass have replaced long walks, as his paws have been troubled by corns. While booties help, he would prefer not to wear them. He’s also learning to make decisions like a big boy and loves getting a morning scratch on the bed between his two-leggers. We can’t get enough of this beautiful boy!

Gunn was such a good boy on the 15h commute to his new home in NB. Slept with his greyhound brother Roman most of the way aside from their rest stops. He just loves running around his new fenced in yard and exploring the rest of the yard while on leash.
We still have to Gunner proof the house if we step outside. He LOVES to get into anything that is in a plastic bag. Whether it be toilet paper, hot dog buns or even has gone into a grocery bag and carried a can of Pasta sauce to his bed. Truth be told we couldn’t possibly love this sweet bulldozer anymore than we already do!

Hello to GGA! It’s Gone To Thefront (GoGo) and my Boston Terrier partner in crime: Ivy reporting from the land of kitchen parties and seafood! AKA…. The maritime province of Nova Scotia! Things are great here in Pictou County, NS :) The walks, car rides in our chariot, and the treats are next level! Ivy even taught me to scan the floor for crumbs while supervising the humans in the kitchen!

Gotcha Day - November 18, 2022
Three years already! Fiesty enjoys her daily morning walks through the park including a short section on the beach, often meeting friends along the way.
Even though she can be playful, she is a real greyhound and the taller the pile of dog beds, the better. She occasionally picks items out of the laundry to enhance the comfort of her bed. She does not hide toys in her crate as she did, but she does hide her food whenever she does not feel like eating right away. She will typically turn her bowl upside down and use her head to flip a corner of her crate pad over the upside down bowl to hide everything.
We did watch a few of her races and noticed that she hip checked dogs that tried to pass her. Well, during her walks, if she is wearing a sweater or a coat, she often likes to hip check, looking very happy with herself and wagging her tail. She will even slow down, watch where we are, and start hip checking as we get next to her. I wonder if wearing a coat reminds her of wearing racing jerseys.
Fiesty did participate in the Great Greyhound Global Walk again this year. We joined about four dozens other sight hounds at High Park, many thanks to the Junction Greyhounds Facebook group for organizing the event.

Holdie, with her spunky and sassy attitide, is always keeping everyone on their toes! With her lively personality and playful antics, she brings a spark of joy to every room. She's not afraid to give a little sass, especially when it's time for a walk or a treat-she'll "talk back" with the cutest little barks or huffs. But after all the fun, Holdie's favorite place is curled up beside her humans, soaking up all the cuddles she can get. This sweetheart is equal parts sass and snuggles. I can honestly say, everyone loves Holdie!
